UMaine Helping Make Advancements to Offshore Wind in Maine
A few years ago the University of Maine put a 1:8 scale model of a floating turbine in the water off the coast to test how it would hold up. Armed with 18 months of data from that test and a new facility, UMaine is gearing up to help guide builders in developing and deploying safe and efficient floating turbines off the coast of Maine. The research aims to generate local jobs, cut costs, and provide renewable energy throughout Maine. It will also assist other projects working towards deep-water floating wind farms.
