Shell to Modify Drilling Permit in Arctic

Shell has applied to modify its federal permit for offshore drilling in the Arctic. The original permit did not allow for digging into petroleum zones roughly 8,000 ft below the ocean floor due to lack of equipment to deal with a possible blowout. The desired equipment is now on site therefore, Shell would like to begin drilling in this deeper region.
