Shell Brings Expertise to the Northeast as Offshore Wind Energy Heats Up
Shell New Energies won two big seabed leases last year to develop offshore wind projects in the Northeast. The company is now moving people and resources from the Gulf of Mexico up North to seize the new market opportunity. In December 2018, Shell and partner EDP Renewables won leases off the coasts of Massachusetts and New Jersey for 1.6 gigawatts and up to 2.5 gigawatts, respectively. Shell is planning to leverage their experience in the offshore oil and gas industry and put it to use in this new field.
