Updates to the Critical Habitat for North Atlantic Right Whales
North Atlantic Right Whales were listed as endangered in June of 1970 and there are believed to be approximately 450 individuals today. Under the Endangered Species Act, NOAA must define a critical habitat designation for the North Atlantic Right Whale. MarineCadastre.gov includes the current listed habitat in the critical habitat data set in the data registry. Recently, NOAA has proposed changing this habitat to greatly expand the previous designation.
