Researchers to Study Feasibility of Gulf of Mexico Offshore Wind
The Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will conduct a survey to determine the feasibility of potential offshore renewable energy resources in the Gulf of Mexico, primarily offshore wind. According to NREL researchers, the survey can determine whether the region can "transform 50 years of offshore manufacturing and deployment expertise into a thriving offshore industry." Researchers will use the NREL-developed geospatial offshore wind cost model to determine the levelized cost of energy for Gulf Coast offshore wind.
