World’s First Trial to Grow Corals at Offshore Wind Farm
While it might have happened before naturally, this new trial is the first concentrated effort to grow coral reefs on offshore wind foundations. The Danish group, Orsted, will start in June to test its’ ReCoral system on four foundations at its Greater Changhua project in tropical waters off the coast of Taiwan. Orsted has been working on and testing the concept with academics and other coral experts since 2020. If this trial is successful, it could be rolled out globally and used by other developers.
