BOEM Advances Offshore Wind in California

As part of the Biden Administration’s commitment to developing 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced two actions to advance the leasing process in California. First, BOEM is gathering interest in two areas off the coast of central California, near the Morro Bay Call Area. Second, BOEM has formally designated the Humboldt Wind Energy Area and is beginning an environmental review of the area under the National Environmental Policy Act. These advancements will also help California reach its goal of 100 percent carbon-free energy by 2045.
