U.S. Offshore Wind Energy Industry Growing in Potential
As Deepwater Wind continues construction, 20 other projects are in the development phase for offshore wind farms in the U.S. totaling 15,650 megawatts of potential energy. Thirteen of these projects, totaling 6,000 megawatts of energy that would power 1.8 million homes, are in the advanced stages of development. Twelve of these projects have announced a commercial operating date of 2020. With 80% of the population living within 50 miles of the coast, offshore wind could be a viable solution to the energy problem.
