Offshore Wind Energy Areas Defined for New York

An area about 11 miles south of Long Island, New York was defined as a Wind Energy Area through the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. The area totals approximately 81,130 acres for potential commercial wind energy development. Next, the Bureau will publish for public comment an Environmental Assessment, which evaluates potential impacts associated with issuing a lease for that area, as well as a “Proposed Sale Notice,” which describes the proposed lease terms, auction format, and allows for interested companies to submit their qualification packages for BOEM’s approval to participate in the lease sale.
