After the Auction, What are Next Steps for Offshore Wind in North Carolina?
Avangrid beat three other companies for federal rights to develop 122,000 acres off the coast of North Carolina. To keep those rights, the company has to come up with a site assessment plan then get approval from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. Although the company stated that they’re excited to play a leading role in the growing U.S. offshore wind industry, they’ve been very quiet about specifics for their planning phase. This isn’t Avangrid’s first push into the world of renewable energy, though. They have developed about 6.5 GW of wind, solar, and other renewable generation facilities in services or under development in the U.S.
