New Jersey More than Doubles Offshore Wind Energy Target to 7.5 Gigawatts

The governor of New Jersey signed an executive order raising the state’s target for offshore wind energy from 3.5 gigawatts by 2030 to 7.5 gigawatts by 2035. Their goal is the second largest in the country and puts them with only a handful of states, such as Massachusetts, Maryland, and New York, to have a multi-gigawatt target. The state is already making progress towards their goal by awarding a contract to Orsted to build a 1.1 gigawatt offshore wind farm with plans for more in 2020 and 2022.
