Maine Set to Expand Research and Development of Floating Offshore Wind

Maine’s Governor announced the state’s plan to create the country’s first floating offshore wind research array in the Gulf of Maine with the goal to solidify their leadership in floating offshore wind energy and collaborate with the state’s fisheries on industry development. The research array would be located 20-40 miles offshore in an area that would allow a connection to the mainland electric grid. The outer continental shelf of the Gulf of Maine has some of the highest sustained wind speeds in the world and therefore great potential for generating clean energy and economic opportunity.
