Governor of Maine Signs Bill to Advance Offshore Wind Energy

University of Maine has been developing floating offshore wind technology with the hopes of testing in Maine waters. The efforts have been long stalled but recently got back on track when Governor Mills signed legislation directing the Public Utilities Commission to approve the contract for the first-of-its-kind project. The governor also announced two collaborative efforts to further the state towards offshore wind development. First, partnering with BOEM, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts on a federally led Gulf of Maine Intergovernmental Regional Task Force on offshore wind and second, the Maine Offshore Wind Initiative.
