Floating Wind Turbine Platforms Show Promise
As offshore wind gains popularity, engineers seek to make farms more financially, aesthetically, and environmentally viable, therefore turning to floating turbines. At the University of Maine, a 1/52 scale model of a floating turbine has been going through the rounds of testing. Researchers are able to mimic hurricane storm-force winds and so far, the turbine is showing success. This is the second iteration of floating turbine after the one-eighth scale model that floated off the coast of Maine for 18 months.
