First Offshore Wind Turbine Goes Up on Federal Lease
Dominion Energy and offshore wind developer Orsted have installed the first two 6-megawatt wind turbines on a federal lease. This is the first step towards an array off the coast of Virginia that should produce up to 2.6 gigawatts of power when finished. These turbines are part of the pilot project which is expected to begin generating power for the Virginia grid by late summer or early fall 2020. The ultimate goal is to use larger 14-megawatt turbines and have those online in 2026.
