Feds Decide to Make Offshore Wind Decisions Regional for North and South Carolina
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management moved to define a single common approach for North and South Carolina wind energy areas by creating a joint task force. The task force will consider both the Wilmington East and West wind energy areas as well as the Grand Strand area in South Carolina while development plans off the Outer Banks will continue separately. It will focus on three main issues: how far from shore to build the wind turbines, how to lessen the “wind wake” from one wind farm to another, and how to avoid damage to whale calving grounds.
