Eagles Participate in Wind Turbine Research

The University of Auburn’s War Eagles took a trip to Colorado to visit the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and participate in research to further understand the interactions between wind turbines and birds. The eagles are trained to fly to handlers over long distances making them the perfect test subjects. Bird deaths by wind turbines are rare, but eagles and other large birds are at an increased risk because of their size.
