Discovering the Depths of the Ocean
Researchers never know what they will find when they start out to explore the ocean. Often times, they have a good idea, however, the ocean holds surprises which can lead to major discoveries. Such was the case in 1981 when scientists caught a glimpse of the extraordinary life dwelling at the bottom of Baltimore Canyon. Fast forward to present time, and scientists have found the canyons off the East Coast of the U.S. are teeming with life.
