Creating Fisheries Regulatory Boundaries in the Gulf of Mexico

The Southeast Regional Fisheries Office of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service needed authoritative data to create geospatial files of fishery closures. Recreational and commercial fishers, fishery managers, enforcement agencies, and the U.S. Coast Guard all need these files to visualize the closures without having to refer to the complex Code of Federal Regulations. The office used Marine Cadastre authoritative data in order to create the files with the most up-to-date, trusted information. The closure data have been incorporated into the Gulf of Mexico Data Atlas.
