California Explores Plan for Offshore Wind Energy

There are hurdles ahead for offshore wind energy but experts in California feel they’re worth the challenge. A group of lawmakers plans to introduce a bill that would set a goal of producing 10 gigawatts of power from wind energy by 2040. Due to California’s deeper waters, the wind turbines would have to float, and in order to get 10 gigawatts of energy, the state would need around 800 turbines. However, engineers say none of these challenges are insurmountable and all would be worth it in the end.
