California Takes a Stab at Offshore Wind

Offshore wind on the West Coast adds additional challenges with deeper waters but floating turbines could solve the problem. California aims to prove this theory by picking up where the Oregon project left off. By finding buyers for the energy upfront, the project hopes it won’t run into the same problems Oregon suffered. The next phase of the project is to apply for siting permits. The development is expected to take five to seven years.
