California Sets Goals for Offshore Wind Energy

A recent bill directed the California Energy Commission to set offshore wind energy targets and create a strategic plan for development. The commission set the target of 3 Gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030, which could come from a full build-out of the Morro Bay Wind Energy Area or a combination of that area and Humboldt Wind Energy Area. The other target is up to 15 Gigawatts by 2045 and an additional 5 Gigawatts by 2050 if advancements in offshore wind technology continue and support a faster rate of development.
