California Moving Forward with Offshore Wind Energy

The Morro Bay Power Plant has been out of commission for the last three years. Trident Winds, an offshore energy company, wants to reverse that and put it to use for offshore wind. The company submitted a lease application,to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management for a deep water anchored wind project approximately 34 miles off the coast of Morro Bay, California. BOEM has found that the company is qualified to hold a commercial lease. The project would use the outfall connection from the Morro Bay Power Plant to connect the wind energy to California’s energy grid.
