BOEM and NASA Announce HeroX Challenge

BOEM and NASA have launched a challenge with HeroX to collect ideas for how to use emerging SmallSat/CubeSat technology along with other technology to improve animal tracking and data collection from the ocean. The sponsors invite engineers and others who are interested in creating open source software to join the challenge for a chance to win some of the $30,000 prize money. The challenge ends 5:00 p.m., EST, November 8. The second component of the project is to test a commercially available wildlife tracking receiver on an existing high-altitude balloon, to be launched in late September from Tillamook, Oregon, to characterize signal reception of a potential orbital receiver.
