Aerial Surveys Help the Carolinas Prepare for Offshore Wind

On behalf of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), aerial surveys are collecting baseline data on wildlife off the coasts of North and South Carolina. Both of these areas are prime real estate for offshore wind energy and BOEM is using these surveys to get a head start. The surveys will collect data on a variety of species--such as birds, marine mammals, sharks, and more--and are so detailed scientists can even tell how high birds are flying and whether they are adults or juveniles.
